Hey guys! I hope your weekend started well. I feel refreshed and super energized after my first trip to Western Europe this year. It was actually hard to decide on a destination because I was torn between Rome, Milan, Paris, Budapest or Antwerpen. They are all great options of course, but the final decision was inspired by my friend Janet from Belgium whom I haven’t seen for 5 years.  She always told me to go visit her in Antwerpen and I finally caved in. Had to go see my girl! Initially, I was supposed to travel with my photographer, as I had to keep my content rolling. Since he wasn’t able to come along, it kind of ended up being a solo trip. I didn’t mind the experience!

Now, searching for affordable tickets is no easy task dear reader! I wanted to find those cheap tickets people always talk about. It took me some days of searching and comparing websites, prices, flight hours, baggage allowance and all those nitty-gritty details when it comes to flights. Lo and behold! I finally found a great site called Bravofly. They have affordable prices and cool deals, depending on the season and destination of course. My ticket wasn’t exactly cheap, but it beat other sites in comparison. I paid € 255 for a round trip, including hand luggage. It wasn’t bad at all plus it was with Swiss airlines. Check out the site for reasonable deals.

I left Athens at 14:00 and arrived at Zurich airport at around 16:15, with a 1-hour layover. From there I connected to Zaventem airport, arriving at 18:00 GMT +2. Despite being a bit exhausted, I did enjoy taking a train from Zaventem airport to Antwerpen Centraal. Quite an impressive airport by the way! I had to pay attention at the station and train ride to Antwerpen city because all the signs and announcements were in Dutch. Wasn’t rocket science to figure it out though. The trip was only 47 minutes, and the train was quick and comfortable inside. The isle, leg room, and luggage holders are quite spacious and well-executed in general. The windows are quite big which appeals to the eyes as it’s easy to take in the beautiful views… endless fields of green with houses spread here and there. I loved the space.

On arrival, I went to a Starbucks just within the Antwerp central station to wait for my friend Janet to pick me up. I thought she wouldn’t recognize me after 5 years, but she did. In fact, she approached and just stared at me in shock because she was convinced that I was pulling an April fool’s on her and that I would be a no-show. I looked up from my phone and being the weirdo that I am, I run and jumped on her in such a goofy way, but with extreme joy due to not having seen each other for 5 long years. I can’t describe my joy… that moment was golden.

That was only day one! I’ll post day two in a few days. Stay tuned.
