It’s been nearly three weeks I haven’t talked to you guys, time flies so fast, I cannot imagine. On the other hand, it’s good to have a break to regain your focus. That’s why I talked about self-love on one of my posts.

So as you know me, I can bearly spend two weekends in a row without leaving the city. My main goal is to visit all the Saronic Islands of Greece and I’m so glad I have one to go. Last weekend I went to Spetses, and I must say, every Greek Island has its own looks and it always feels like you’ve visited a different country.

I have been in Greece for long enough to finally feel at home but never been engrossed to visit the island for reasons that I cannot seem to find if you ask me.  I became devoted to exploring where I call home since last year and I can’t stop.

This is why you should visit Spetses Island.

  1. History

We all are aware of Greece for its remarkable antique history. This eventful past doesn’t end in the mainland, they exist on the island too.

Spetses, an island boasting a long naval tradition, is famous for its significant contribution to the 1821 War of Independence. It was here that the revolution flag was raised on 3rd April 1821.

2.Close to Athens

Are you in Athens for a few days and time or your financial status will not allow you to visit any island? You here on a work trip and you have a day to spoil yourself? Are you on an island-hopping itinerary and doesn’t know which one to visit? I challenge you to step your feet on this island.

The island of Spetses, located in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s 95.8 KM from Athens. You can reach here in two routes:

Spetses video
  1. Take a ferry from Piraeus port, which will take you between 2-3hrs and a round trip ticket is approximately €81.00.
  2. You can take a tour bus I used Lifeontheroad. Visiting Spetses was in my bucket list and I was deliberating about it for so long. When an opportunity struck, I didn’t blink even once. I thought it was improbable to visit Spetses for €17.00.

You’ll take a really great road trip, talk about killing two birds with one stone. Having a ride along marvelous mountain, hills, valleys, and villages. You get to see how extraordinary Greece is. The trip ends at Porto Cheli where you will take a ferry taxi to the island.

From Porto Cheli to Spetses is about 10-15 minutes max and you pay €3.00. I was lucky enough to get a free ride and the reason being, I forgot that we still have some places where paying with a bank card is impossible. So the guys gave me a free ride.

3. Sport activities

When I was there, there was a marathon going on. This place is know to hold a number of sports that you will find catchy.

Unique athletic events organized every year in April “Spetsathlon” and October “Spetses Mini Marathon”, where thousands of participants take place. Spetsathlon,

Bike Hire. Rent a mountain bike, cycling is a very pleasant way to explore the island.

Scuba Diving at the coasts of Ermionida and the islets around the islands of Spetses and Ydra.

Known for the sailing festival, Spetses attracts a lot of rich and yacht owners for a race worth watching.

4 . Easily accessible beaches for everyone

I wish I had my bikini with me. The weather was so ravishing and the blue sea waters were so tempting. If you happen to be in Spetses, you can visit the following beaches.

1.Agia Paraskevi Source: Location: 3 km south of Spetses Town Source
2.Agia Marina Location: 3 km south of Spetses Town Source
3.Zogeria Location: 9 km north west of Spetses Town Source
4.Xilokeriza Location: 8 km from Spetses Town
5.Town Beach Location: 500 metres from Spetses Town
6.Kaiki 4 photos Location: 2 km from Dapia
7.Agioi Anargiri Location: 12 km west of Spetses

5. The scenic landscape from Dapia to the Old Port

Talking about a romantic view, one of the location to hold a wedding during this time of the year. Spectacular crystal clear water merging with the land along the old port is breathtaking.

6. Food and Nightlife.

Being close to Athens, it can get overcrowded. It’s known for a crazy nightlife and good traditional Greek food which you will find nourishing. If you happen to visit this place after reading his post, please tell me how much you enjoyed it.

Let me know which unadvertised Greek tourist location you would like me to share with you.
