Grece has been my home for the last 12years and I kid you not despite the odds I love this place. We all get attached to a place especially after a long time stay. Being part of this community I’ve learned a lot.

Have you ever been to Greece? If your answer is no then I have the following reasons why you should make it on top of your bucket list. Those are the reasons why I love Greece, and why you should too…

  1. HISTORY.

Some things are best seen and not told. Greece is a country with a very rich history and the homeland to many famous personalities throughout the centuries. There is such a big difference between stepping on a historic site and seeing it on a photo.

2.WEATHER.

I grew up in the heart of a tropical climate, you know what that means. It means you get a sunkissed year long, the average annual amount of sun hours is 2492.0 hours in Nairobi. Athens has 2,848 hours. If you can’t call that jackpot then I don’t know what it is.

3. FOOD.

I have so much to talk about when it comes to Greek food, being one of the healthiest food in the Mediterranean region, food is way affordable here. I once went to Antwerp and I had a huge food culture shock. Greek food range caters for everyone. You have vegetarian and non-meat dishes such as Bamies (μπάμιες), Briám (μπριάμ), Horta (χόρτα), Prassorizo (πρασόρυζο),Yemista (γεμιστά) my favorite, Fasolakia (φασολάκια). The list is endless.

Most Greeks suffer from Mediterranean anemia, for that reason meat is being consumed a lot. They have a long list of meat and fish dishes, such as Kleftiko (κλέφτικο), Kokoretsi (κοκορέτσι), Moussaka (μουσακάς), Gyros (γύρος), Souvlaki (σουβλάκι), Kreatopita (κρεατόπιτα), Giouvetsi (γιουβέτσι), Safridia (σαφρίδια) and the list is endless too.

4. CULTURE & LIFESTYLE.

Family: Greeks value family so much, this was another culture shock I got when I landed in Greece. They love family circle to the extent of not wanting any of the members to step out of the home. They rather occupy one apartment if they can or the entire building. where from the top floor is always the grandparents, followed by the parent, and the kid.

Fun or Celebration: Have you heard about a party like greeks? Well, it’s true. I’ve visited some of my friends in other Europian countries and I must say there is no other country where they like to party as they do in Greece. This is were club-hopping is normal till 8:00 in the morning.

Greeks will always live in apartments with a balcony because of coffee, drinks, and gossip on a balcony is a lifestyle to the greek. One of the things you will love having to sit outside and sit your coffee.

5.VACATIONS.

Islands and beaches: I’m not even going to dwell on this, if you’ve been following my travel steps, you’ll see that I’ve visited a number of amazing islands and my dream is to visit as many as I can afford to.

You want to have a fun, vacation and vitamin D at once, then Greece is your to-go place. You might afford to make one trip in years but you will love it trust me.

6. BUDGET-FRIENDLY

Economy: You all read and watch it in the media that Greece is not doing well, that’s true and not true at the same time. Meaning it depends on your perspective about Greece.

I cannot emphasize how much life is so affordable in this country even with the mad smearing it’s getting from the EU union. Talking about being on a budget, this is a place to visit on a budget and you will still smile after your vacation.

Despite the hardship, I still find Greece my home.

Be More Feel More.

24 thoughts on “THINGS I LOVE AND YOU WILL LOVE ABOUT GREECE.

  1. Greece is SOOO high on my bucket list- for the views, the history, the weather and the lifestyle. Strangely, I’m not a seafood or greek food fan, but everything else about it seems divine!

  2. Great that you have been living in Greece for the last 12 years. I’ve never been in Greece but it looks like a fascinating place. There are so many beautiful beaches to visit and the food is delicious.

  3. I LOOOOOOOVE GREEK FOOD and would want to try authentic greek food and eat it while looking over the scenic view that greece have! It’s one of my travel bucketlist. Greece looks like a dream and a heaven on Earth, to be honest.

  4. I’ve been to Greece twice and can’t wait to go back! You’re right about the food – so comforting and yet so healthy! What’s your favourite place in Greece?

  5. I think it’s amazing that you live in such a gorgeous and exotic country! I think Greece is beautiful and I would love to wake up to that scenery every day! I live by the beach and I get a similar feeling when I drive up the coast and look at all the palm trees and pelicans flying by. I now live mainland and it’s just not the same. However, it’s only two miles to the bridge and then the Atlantic Ocean. but if I lived where you do, everyday would feel like paradise!

  6. I have always loved history and have wanted to go to Greece since I was young! Now that I am older with a MA in history, I feel like I NEED to go now! Thanks for the reminder of how amazing Greece is!
