Before I start to explain why I find walking in Athens especially at night very therapeutic, let me thank Rusha Paenga for the kind heart she has. She offered to post my content on her blog ” Carnival party and why it’s celebrated in Greece”. I also had a chance to get to post her content. “Can traveling be considered a lifestyle”.  Rusha thank you so much.

We all are familiar with the benefits of walking. I’ll jog your mind. Below are the reasons why walking is important to you.
1. Loose weight
2. Releases stress
3. Enhance muscle power
4. Reduce blood pressure
5. Increases metabolism
6. Improves blood sacculation
7. You can meditate while walking
8. Eases back pain
9. Helps to sleep better
10. Uplift your moods
11. Great way to socialize.

I walk a lot and lately, discovered taking an Athens night stroll augments my warm-fuzzies. Why do I say so? This city is like a sunflower.

When you walk along Thisseos, all you can hear is the sound of people’s voices in the evening. No car honking or motorcycles. That alone gives me the serenity to keep walking.

The street is usually full of pedestrians only, and most of the time you will find west African boys giving their magical extravaganza, so sitting there and enjoying the lovely African drum beats is so much of energy lifting.

Watching them playing and singing in harmony just puts a smile on a sad face. People tend to surround them because of the way they play the djembe drums, with so much energy which gives a reason to just stand there and enjoy.

Talk about a street market, a street full of creative handmade items. From jewelry to home décoré such as pillowcases, light stands and many more. The best place to buy a souvenir, very cheap and good quality. This only melts my heart, imagining how people are so skilled out there.

I don’t know about you but I love the view of Acropolis at night, how they used those cool yet revealing lights is incredible. I can stand there for a hours just staring at it with a big smile on my face.

Walking along the old Plaka area is another thing. Most of the stores are painted white and the reflection is best during the night. The street of Andrianou sparkles in the night more than in the day. This makes me feel relaxed in a way because of less noise, fewer people in a beautiful street.

If you haven’t done a night walk in Athens and you live here, then you are missing out. If you ever visit Athens then do a night walk you will love it.

  1. I would love to go to Athens during the day, at night or at any time! What a beautiful city. It must look beautiful at night. The Acropolis all lit up must be stunning. I imagine the exercise must be easier when the sites are so spectacular.

    1. Athens Is beautiful in general. I love the Athens night walk because in the day it’s too busy not only with people but with sound pollution too. So night is the best time for me to enjoy the views without pushing people. You should come sometime.

  2. This looks like a stunning place to visit, and I agree exploring at night is so relaxing. I love seeing all the lights and stars, plus I also enjoy the fact that most people are at home sleeping so you are able to roam around more without worrying about getting into anyone’s way.

  3. I wish I could travel and now Athens would be at the top of my list. It’s a beautiful city at night and I love night walks! Thank you for sharing your photos as well as your experience.

  4. I explored Athens a few years ago and while we never did a night walk, it was lovely just walking around the city! And I agree that the Acropolis looks magnificent at night!

  5. I also love to walk every night, even I’m in a new city. Walking is the exercise that I love which helps me to maintain my weight.

  6. What a beautiful depiction of Athens by night. Well, in Thessaloniki, my town, there is the night half marathon. An equally beautiful feeling, to run by the sea when the sun says good night.

  7. There’s something special and magical about this place.. I don’t know if it’s because of its history, its culture, its colors.. but yes, it makes me want to go any time of the day!

  8. I have always fantasized about those small corridor streets packed with people. It always looks exotic to me and beautiful. I most see that that in Asia, I didn’t know Athen had those. That will be a nice place to visit.

  9. I’ve never been to Greece, though it is on my bucket list. I love walking around the city streets at night when everything is quiet or has a different energy than the day. You get to see the city, where ever it may be, in a whole new light.
